kompas-in-handen

We’re well into January, so there has been enough time for setting resolutions, or perhaps you are still wondering how to fit things in. Whatever the weight we give New Year’s resolutions, a new year does invite reflection. Reflection on both the old and new year. Underlying our resolutions is often a desire for change in some form or another. What is the change you are longing for? What direction do you want to set your compass for 2017?

Before defining what you want for this year, I invite you to reflect on 2016. We are all too keen to look for what is next, but for us to grow as Be-ings, it is enriching to pause, think, and feel things through. Here are some questions to help you review the past year. Through your achievements and successes, what have you learned about yourself? How have they shaped you? What has the significance of your failures, disappointments and losses been? What has this year taught you about yourself? How did you make room for your talents and values? Who have you been in your personal sphere and as a citizen of the world?

Get off the fast train life gets you on for a moment and take time to contemplate where you are right now before deciding the direction you want to take. Make it a conscious choice. Both to get off the train and choosing the train to get on again. Get clarity on the direction you want to set your compass for 2017.

Write down what you would love 2017 to be like – what you would like to achieve, personally and professionally, both at the level of Do-ing and Be-ing. What are the top 5 things you would like to achieve this year? Where do you need to up your game? What would you like to learn this year? What talents and strengths would you like to develop? What do you want more of, and less of? What impact do you want to make in the world in 2017?
If 2017 is a year you want to look back on as a game changer, what do you need to put in place now?

To give greater meaning and impact to your answers write them down as suggested or if you prefer, make a vision board, which is also a fun and relaxing way to consolidate your thoughts and feelings. My very first newsletter two years ago, had a post on making vision boards. If you want to make one online, you can use www.DreamItAlive.com.

Once you have clear in your mind what you want 2017 to look like, take this to the next level:

What is your commitment? How are you going to make it real? What is your immediate next step? And in 3, 6 and 9 months? Who or what can help you? How are you going to celebrate reaching your goals?
